Location: East Fork Apiary 2165 Folk Ream Rd. Springfield, OH 45502
Target Audience: Beginner to intermediate beekeepers who understand basic hive management, bee biology, and protective gear.
Class Size: 8–15 participants for safety and hands-on focus.
Learning Objectives: By the end, participants will be able to:
- Explain why and when honey bees swarm.
- Assemble your own swarm trap to take home and start catching free bees!
- Prepare, bait, and monitor swarm traps effectively.
- Safely locate, assess, and capture accessible swarms.
- Hive and manage a caught swarm for long-term success.
Why This Class Matters Catching swarms provides free, locally adapted bees, supports pollination, and aligns with natural beekeeping. It’s rewarding, cost-effective, and helps manage “nuisance” swarms humanely instead of extermination.
